GE1 is based on GC, however, the text of the base text was reproduced with a significant number of defects, resulting from distraction (oversights), misunderstanding of the manuscript or use of certain engraver conventions (manner). One can mention here:
- omission of in bar 8;
- introduction of a dotted rhythm on the 2nd beat of bar 14 and 68;
- change of e to g in bar 42 – Terzverschreibung error or perhaps a revision (?).
In GE1 a careful revision of accidentals was performed, detecting the vast majority of the manuscript's deficiencies, e.g., in bar 40 and adding a number of cautionary signs.
Some of the mistakes of the base text remained without correction, e.g., F instead of G in the chord in bar 3 or G instead of F in bar 20 and analog.
Nothing indicates Chopin's participation in the preparation of GE1.
This movement of the Sonata – Marche funèbre – was also offered as a separate publication.
