FE2 - Corrected impression of FE1

Publisher: Maurice Schlesinger
Date: (II-VI) 1833
Plate number: M.S. 1312
Title: "La ci darem la mano" varié
Dedication: Monsieur Titus Woyciechowski

FE2 contains a few corrections of the defects of FE1, including:

  • change of the last note in bar 109 from a3 to b3 (correction of a mistake of GE1);
  • addition of a quaver beam in the bottom R.H. voice in bar 114;
  • shift of the  raising b1 to b1 from the 1st to the 3rd semiquaver in bar 237;
  • addition of a  raising e2 to e2 in bar 277 (correction of a mistake committed already in A);
  • addition of a  restoring d in bar 302 (correction of a mistake committed already in GE1);
  • addition of a  (B) and a  (f) to the 2nd L.H. quaver in bar 327 (correction of a mistake of GE1);
  • addition of an octave sign in bar 356 (correction of a mistake of A);
  • change of b3 to c4 in the 12th semiquaver in bar 371;
  • change of a2 to b2 in the last semiquaver in bar 373 (correction of a mistake committed already in GE1).

It seems likely that, as was the case with other pieces by Chopin, the text was proofread again shortly after the release of the first impression. Chopinesque initiative seems likely here – in bar 114 the correction does not overlap with the version of the remaining sources; moreover, no other reviser noticed the absence of accidentals in bars 277 and 302.

Starting from 1852, the edition was published with a new cover, on which the publisher's data were updated; in 1846, Schlesinger was replaced by G. Brandus. In later impressions, the individual title page was replaced by a collective one, featuring a list of Chopin's works published or taken over by Brandus. No changes to the music text were introduced in these impressions.
