AsI - Working autograph of score
Date: | 1827 |
Title: | Variations sur le Theme de Mozart |
Dedication: | None |
Working autograph of the score, signed "FFCh 1827". The notation is hasty, sometimes of an abbreviatory or even draft nature, with numerous corrections, probably introduced at different times (the manuscript bears, e.g. the words "1829 went to Vienna"). It poses a number of problems in terms of determining the final text of this source, which, on a number of occasions, was not clearly defined. The present characterisation covers only the piano part of AsI, which is an earlier, working edition of the version for one piano.
The shared mistakes of AsI and A, e.g. in bar 119, prove that both manuscripts were interdependent, although A most probably was not written directly on the basis of AsI.
In AsI there are more fingering digits than in the version prepared for publication. We consider these indications in a similar way to the fingering entered into teaching copies – we put them in brackets and introduce into the main text when they complement the fingering entered into A and only when the version of ApI does not significantly diverge from the final version.
