Title: Grand Concerto
Dedication: Monsieur Fréd. Kalkbrenner

GE1 encompassed the Concerto in a version for solo piano and orchestral parts sold optionally. The present characterization, as well as all the detailed notes, pertain, with only few exceptions, to the version for one piano, consisting of the solo piano part and the authentic piano reductions of the orchestra sections (Tutti).

The revisions introduced in GE1 cover generally additions of the overlooked accidentals, mostly obvious, e.g. in bar 44, 91, 122. Cautionary accidentals were also added, e.g. in bar 47, 58 and 122, moreover:

  • the  before the last quaver in bar 44 was moved to the right place, while the inaccurately written  in bar 77 was moved before a;
  • the Tempo 1o indication was added in bar 52 and 104;
  • small articulation marks were added (dots, accents, etc.), e.g. wedges in bar 91;
  • authentic wedges were changed to staccato dots, e.g. in bar 111;
  • some of the pitch mistakes were corrected, e.g. in bar 45, 73;
  • errors and rhythmic inaccuracies were corrected, e.g. in bar 23;
  • allegedly missing rests were added, e.g. in bar 63.

However, oversights and mistakes were not avoided, e.g. the mistakes in bars 39 and 41, 42, 108 were left uncorrected, in bar 94 the erroneous rhythm of FE was changed to another, also erroneous, while in bar 96 changing the correct text was added.

In GE1 a number of common mistakes was also committed:

  • rhythmic, e.g. an erroneous beam in bar 8594 and 99
  • pitch, e.g. f instead of d in bar 82b1 instead of c2 in the 1st chord in bar 93g1 instead of b1 at the end of bar 123;
  • various oversights, e.g. the slur in the L.H. in bar 49 was overlooked, the tie of b2 in bar 50, the staccato dot in bar 76;
  • other defects, e.g. in bar 56 con fuoco was printed instead of con forza.

The additions in pencil visible in the presented copy – above all fingering – are of no source value.
