Title: | Douze Etudes || Étude I |
Dedication: | Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult |
The revisers of GE3 aimed at checking the text of A. On the basis of it, a few changes were performed, partly ignoring Chopin proofreading of GE1a, e.g., in bars 4, 7, 12 and 21.
Superimposing the changes whose effect is GE3 on the text of GE2 was theoretically possible soon after the release of GE2, hence more or less from 1856. The possibility seems to be confirmed by EE3, dated around 1858, in which the changes introduced in GE3 were possibly included. On the other hand, a similar revision of the text with reference to the original manuscript base text was also performed in many others Chopin editions of Breitkopf and Härtel (e.g., in Op. 24, 27, 29), published in the 1860s. Therefore, it would be natural to adopt that GE3 was also prepared more or less at that time.
