GE2 - Second German edition
Publisher: | Breitkopf & Härtel |
Date: | ca 1855 |
Title: | Douze Etudes || Étude I |
Dedication: | Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult |
Preparing the new typesetting of the Etudes, the Breitkopf & Härtel company introduced numerous changes to the note text:
- two evident pitch errors were corrected in bars 20 and 33;
- the enharmonic change (from g to a) in the last figure in bar 22 was finished;
- the version of A – with six notes – of the last figure in the L.H. in bar 34 was returned;
- some of the accidentals were added, e.g., two naturals in bar 33;
- changes in the range of dynamic hairpins, often minor, were performed;
- slurs were changed, sometimes in a striking manner, e.g., in bars 35-40 authentic phrase slurs were replaced with two-bar slurs corresponding to the division of the text into lines;
- in a few places, e.g., in bar 19 the inaccuracies in the notation of "big" notes were corrected.
Wn2 was published with two graphic variants of the cover, identical as far as the content is concerned. The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin has the cover of the later version, used also in #GE4. Separate Etudes were also published separately, provided with a collective cover including 12 etudes each by Chopin, Henselt and Thalberg.
