EE2 - Corrected impression of EE1

Publisher: Wessel & Co
Date: ca 1856-1859
Plate number: W & Co. No. 1643
Title: Grande polonaise brillante précédée d'un Andante spianato
Dedication: None

In EE2 the individual title page was replaced with the collective one from the Wessel & Co's Complete Collection of the Compositions of Frederic Chopin series. The provided possible dating concerns Wessel's original edition, whereas the copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from an impression endorsed already by his successor, the Ashdown & Parry company, and was released ca. 1866.

EE2 corrected the most serious defect of EE1 – the mistake at the end of b. 20. Moreover, a few elements that could be found only in finished FE1 or GE1 were added:

  • the fingering in b. 53,
  • the ties of c1 in b. 73-74 and 85-86,
  • the accent in b. 75 and 106.

The last addition, repeating the mistake of GE1, points to that edition as a possible source on the basis of which the text was checked. A comparison with German editions was a procedure employed in subsequent EE also in other pieces by Chopin.

Moreover, EE2 added a slur in b. 76 (most probably by analogy) and removed the erroneous dot extending g in b. 90.
