GE1 - First German edition

Title: | Grande polonaise brillante précédée d'un Andante spianato |
Dedication: | Madame la Baronne d'Est |
GE1 is based on FE* and does not reveal any traces of Chopin's participation in its creation. A number of minor revisions was introduced therein:
- the hairpin in b. 28 was extended,
- rallent. was moved to b. 35,
- the spelling mistake in the word accelerando in b. 50 was corrected.
In the case of some changes, it is difficult to say whether they were introduced on purpose or whether they resulted from inaccuracies, e.g. the slur encompasses one note more in b. 17 and one note less in b. 75.
GE1 is not free from mistakes:
- the pedalling in b. 32 and 61 was overlooked,
- the tie to a1 in b. 73-74 was overlooked,
- the accent in b. 106 was placed under the wrong note,
- in b. 111 was overlooked.
* The comparison of both editions in the Polonaise reveals that the Stichvorlage for GE1 was a proof copy, very close to the final version of FE. Therefore, it is likely that this was also the case in Andante, in which, however, no changes were then introduced.
