GE3 - Corrected impression of GE2

Publisher: Breitkopf & Härtel
Date: ca 1866
Plate number: 5709
Title: Grande polonaise brillante précédée d'un Andante spianato
Dedication: Madame la Baronne d'Est

GE3 was released ca. 1866, whereas the copy presented in the system appeared ca. 1870. There are even later impressions (released after 1871), in which the prices on the title page include the recently introduced currency – mark. Just like in the case of GE2, it was also GE3 that was provided with two types of title pages – individual* and collective.

GE3 added a few cautionary accidentals –  before g2 in b. 12, 20 and 44, b3 in b. 52, c1 in b. 90 and e1 in b. 91. Moreover, the accent in b. 106 was moved to the right place. However, the most significant intervention is the arbitrary change of the 10th semiquaver in b. 56 and 100 from f1 to a1, which deprives the dominant chord of the leading-note.

* An individual cover from 1872-1873 may be seen on the example of the copy kept at the Viennese Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, reference S.H. Chopin 89.
