FE2 - Corrected impression of FE1
Publisher: | Maurice Schlesinger |
Date: | VIII-IX 1836 |
Plate number: | M.S.1940 |
Title: | Second Concerto |
Dedication: | Madame la Comtesse Delphine Potocka née de Komar |
The second impression of FE1, prepared soon after the first one. Over 20 corrections were performed therein, mainly of patent pitch mistakes. Chopin's participation in the proofreading of FE2 is very likely, e.g. in the case of the added in bar 19 and 343, change of g1 to b1 in bar 219 or e to f in the 2nd chord in bar 492. However, the majority of the changes are corrections of mistakes that could be detected by anyone checking the text with the base text. The proofreading consisted probably of two phases (cf. the characterization of EE1).
Examples of changes:
- corrections of erroneous notes in bars 48, 77, 219, 267, 288, 296, 356, 486;
- addition of cautionary flats and naturals in bars 422-423 and 462-463;
- addition of a raising e1 to e1 in bar 24,
- addition of a lowering c2 to c2 in bar 161.
FE2 was then reprinted on a number of occasions, with minor modifications of the cover (e.g. the price was changed). Later impressions were implemented by Schlesinger's successor, Brandus. The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from 1852-1859 and has a cover of one of those impressions.
