b. 113

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

In GC and FE (→EE) there is no  before the second grace note. It is almost certainly a mistake of Chopin in [A] – naturals rising c1(2) to c1(2) are missing also in bars 110, 112 and 114.The sign was added in GE.

f-b-f1 in GC (→GE)

f-b-d1 in FE (→EE)

..

The version of GC (→GE) is almost certainly erroneous, although it may not have been a typical Terzverschreibung error, resulting from the confusing the eye pattern consisting of parallel lines, but rather an erroneous assimilation of various chords – cf., e.g., the 1st mov., bar 221.

dimin.  in GC (→GE)

No markings in FE1 & GE1

dimin. in bar 118 in FE2 (→FE3FE4)

dim. in bar 118 in EE

..

In the main text, we give dimin. in bar 117 (together with  in bars 118-120), in accordance with GC (and GE2), including more accurate dynamic indications (it is not entirely clear, whether the employed in GC abbreviation is dimin. or dim.; Chopin would use both). Placing the indication in FE2 (→EE,FE3FE4) only in the next bar may be inaccurate. The absence of the indication in FE1 and GE1 is certainly a mistake.

LOng accent in EE, literal reading

Interpretation of accent suggested by the editors

..

The long accent at the beginning of the bar was almost certainly written by Chopin in the base text to EE. According to us, the sign refers rather to the four-bar-long cnote, hence in the main text we place it next to this note (it can be possible that Chopin wrote it under the minim, which fell between the voices of the R.H. and was misunderstood by the engraver).
