EE2 - Revised impression of EE

Publisher: Wessel & Co.
Date: ca 1856-1860
Plate number: W & Co.No. 3549.
Title: Sonate || Finale
Dedication: None

A later impression of EE1, in which in the entire Sonata a number of changes was introduced, e.g., on the basis of GE1 and FE4. In this movement, an addition which was certainly drawn from GE are the  hairpin in bars 13-14. The most significant arbitrary change, introduced only in this edition, is the addition of naturals raising g(1) to g(1) in bars 35-37. The remaining additions of accidentals concern obvious situations or cautionary signs, e.g.:

  • naturals before the 10th quaver (d1(2)) in bar 12;
  • cautionary flats at the beginning of bar 35;
  • cautionary naturals before c(1) in bar 59.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a later (ca 1868) impression, endorsed already by Wessel's successor, the Ashdown & Parry company – see the 1st mov. of the Sonata.
