GE2 - Second German edition

Publisher: Breitkopf & Härtel
Date: ca 1855
Title: Douze Etudes || 6me Etude
Dedication: Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult

Preparing the new typesetting of the Etudes, the Breitkopf & Härtel company introduced numerous changes to the score:

  •  time signature was returned;
  • the remaining inaccuracies and mistakes mentioned in the characteristics of GE1 were corrected (except for the shift of the  sign in bar 47);
  • the notation of accidentals was finally ordered, by adding the remaining missing ones, in particular all mentioned in the characteristics of FC and repeated in GE1;
  • a few accidentals exceeding a standard revision were added – naturals lowering a2 to a2 in bars 7-8 raising F to F in bar 12;
  • the erroneous  was changed to  in bar 26;
  • a certain number of cautionary accidentals was added, e.g., naturals before b and e1 in bar 26 or before E, e2 and e3 in bar 31;
  • a semiquaver at the end of bar 30 was returned;
  • slurs were completed, e.g., in the L.H. in bars 4-5 and analog.;
  • slurs in bars 29-30 and 47-49 were extended;
  • ranges of dynamic hairpins were changed, often slightly.

GE2 was published with two graphic variants of the cover, identical from the point of view of content. The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin features a cover in the later version, used also in #GE4. Particular Etudes were also published separately, provided with a collective cover including 12 etudes each by Chopin, Henselt and Thalberg.
