GE1a - Corrected reprint of GE1

Publisher: Breitkopf & Härtel
Date: XI 1837⇒
Plate number: 5832
Title: Douze Etudes || 2me Etude
Dedication: Madame la Comtesse d'Agoult

The corrected impression of GE1, published probably soon after it – see the characteristics of GE1a in the Etude in Amajor, No. 1. In this Etude – same as in the next ones – there are, however, no changes in the score. Interestingly enough, the last page (from bar 50), in spite of lack of changes in the score, was engraved from scratch, which is easy to observe, while comparing the shape and the exact placement of the dynamic hairpins, slurs or quaver beams. One can assume that the situation was provoked by a random event, as a result of which the original plate with this page rendered unusable.

Due to the lack of essential differences, in the detailed notes we consider GE1a as a part of GE1 and we do not include it when mentioning the sources.

GE1a was provided with slightly differing covers, in particular the copies from 1841 and later include a changed price (15 Ngr instead of 12 Gr). Since 1841, particular Etudes were also published separately, provided with a collective cover including 12 etudes each by Chopin, Henselt and Thalberg.
