b. 443-444

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

..

Instead of a continuous slur for the bass motif, in EE there are two slurs converging on the dotted e minim. It is an inaccuracy, with no actual implications on the performance, which probably results from the fact that in FE b. 444 opens a new line of the text, and the slur in that bar, although it begins before the note, does not suggest continuation with its shape.

Slur in EE

Slurs in GC, literal reading

Contextual interpretation of GC (→GE), and FE

..

In GC the slur extends as far as b. 445, which in this context must be considered inaccurate the same as in GE. This too long and imprecise slur may have occured already in [A1] as EE has a slur that results most probably from misinterpreting the composer's intention. In the main text we present slurring of FE and GE.

b. 449-451

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

2 slurs in A (contextual interpretation) & GE2

3 slurs in GE1 (→FE)

3 slurs in EE

..

The ending of the slur beginning in bar 449 is inaccurate in A, which is confirmed by, among others, the comparison with the next, identical figure (see also bars 409-419). GE1 (→FEEE) convey the literal interpretation of this slur, yet the contextual interpretation, adopted by us to the main text, was included in GE2. The division of the next slur in bar 450 is an arbitrary action of GE1 (→FE) – in spite of the transition to a new page, the notation of A is unambiguous. In EE, the extension of the first of the two slurs, created as a result of this division, mitigated the consequences of the mistake of GE1.

b. 461

composition: Op. 16, Rondo in E♭ major

Slur from the 1st note in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur from the 2nd note suggested by the editors

..

The most probable reason why the slur starts earlier than in previous bars is a misreading of [A].
