In accordance with the analysis of the  or  marks written by Chopin in A in this and analogous pairs of bars (see b. 6-7), in the main text we give an averaged, more or less one-bar long hairpin featured in FC and EE. According to us, all marks, regardless of their length, should be interpreted as long accents.

It was only the first of the three undoubtedly long accents of A that was reproduced as long in FC. In GE the marks were unified as short accents. Short accents, contrary to FE, are also given in EE.

Both Fontana and the engraver of EE considered the longer marks of A (→FE) to be an inaccuracy and replaced them with common, short accents.

The beginning of the slur in EE is placed inaccurately; therefore, it is uncertain whether the slur begins from the 1st or 2nd note of b. 58. We adopt the version compliant with the Stichvorlage (FE) and with the analogous passage a line above. In GE2 (→GE3) the slur begins already from the minim in b. 57, just like 8 bars before.
