Wedge in A

Dots in GE (→FEEE)

..

The wedge over dis very clear in A, although it was placed atypically due to the deletion over the stave – next to the crotchet stem. Therefore, reproducing it as a dot is most probably an inaccuracy. In turn, the status of the dot in the L.H. is unclear – theoretically, it could have been added by Chopin, yet taking into account the deletions of the signs referring to the L.H. visible in A in bars 294, 296 and 298, we consider it to be an editorial revision.

b. 294

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

The sources include a cautionary  before dat the beginning of the bar. In FE (→EE) and GE2 a respective sign was added also next to d in the L.H. We do not include these signs in the main text, since it is d that has been exclusively present for more than 20 bars and not d. Cf. bar 298.

Fingering written into FED, literal reading

Fingering in FED, interpretation

Fingering written into FEFo

Fingering written into FEH

No fingering in FE (→GE)

Fontana's fingering in EE

..

Fingering in FED presumably contains an error – the 1st finger on E would lead to a fingering fundamentally different from the one Chopin gave in previous bars. In the main text, we give the fingering in FEFo, consistent with other entries in the pupils' copies (taking into account only the '4' in FED), EE and, first of all. with the previous printed Chopinesque indications.

b. 294-295

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

e1 tied in FE (→EE), contextual interpretation

e1 repeated in GE

..

In the main text, we correct the minor inaccuracy of the notation of the rhythm in FE (→EE). The missing dot prolonging the e1 quaver in bar 294 could have also contributed to the omission of the tie of that note in GE, although, according to us, it is more likely that the tie was added by Chopin in the last stage of proofreading of FE. The crossing-out of the e1 quaver at the beginning of bar 295 visible in FEH emphasises that the note should not be played again in this place.
