Admittedly, the slur of A does not reach the very end of the motif, yet it was extended, which proves that Chopin meant a sign embracing all notes in the R.H. in this bar.

The fact of shortening the slur in GE (→FE) is a typical example of an inaccuracy resulting from a routine, "string" approach to slurring. The extension of the slur in EE was presumably performed by analogy with bar 12.

Omissions of dashes, marking the range of a dynamic (or agogic) change, is a very frequent inaccuracy in first editions of Chopin's works. According to us, Chopin marked the range of the crescendo inaccurately – in A the dashes simply end at the end of the page; such situations would often result in missing endings of such elements of notation as slurs, dynamic hairpins or the very dashes after verbal indications in autographs (and other kinds of sources).

The slurs of GE1 (→FEEE) may be partially considered a result of Chopin's intervention: the slur running from the 2nd quaver could have been added as a probably simplified correction of the erroneous, too short slur in the 2nd half of the bar. Apart from the literal interpretation of this slurring, we suggest another two possible interpretations.
