Title: | Ballade |
Dedication: | Monsieur le Baron de Stockhausen |
Autograph/fair-copy (photocopy in the Library of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Warsaw). A served as the basis for the first French edition.
A is partially of a working nature – the notation is hasty (inaccurate or overlooked slurs, e.g. in bars 37-39, overlooked accidentals) and contains numerous, as for a basis for print, corrections, e.g. in bar 33 or 40-42. Moreover, it is not the final version of the Ballade, since Chopin, while proofreading FE, introduced a number of corrections and additions, concerning performance indications, rhythm and pitch – see the characterisation of FE1 and FE2.
