FC3 - Third Fontana's Copy
Date: | 1841 |
Title: | Tarentelle |
The third Fontana's copy most probably written based on [FC2] - another lost copy authored by Fontana directly based on A and probably reviewed by Chopin. FC3 served as the basis for the first French edition. Chopin never corrected it.
The title page reads: Tarantelle / pour le piano-forte / par F. Chopin / Paris / Op 43. / Hambourg / chez Schubert et Cie / Londres / chez Wessel et Cie. In the middle of the title page’s bottom margin the plate number of the Troupenas 1073 first edition was written in ink.
In line with Chopin’s instructions, Fontana wrote out notes into parts abbreviated to repeat signs in A (bars 12-19, 36-50, 156-162 and 188-195). When compared to A the text of FC3 displays some minor improvements, which can be ascribed both to Fontana (e.g. insertion of accidentals) and Chopin’s corrections in [FC2], however the discussed Fontana’s copy is not void of inaccuracies, especially in terms of accidentals (e.g. in b. 22).
