Issues : Authentic corrections of FE

b. 294-295

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

e1 repeated in GE

In the main text, we correct the minor inaccuracy of the notation of the rhythm in FE (→EE). The missing dot prolonging the e1 quaver in bar 294 could have also contributed to the omission of the tie of that note in GE, although, according to us, it is more likely that the tie was added by Chopin in the last stage of proofreading of FE. The crossing-out of the e1 quaver at the beginning of bar 295 visible in FEH emphasises that the note should not be played again in this place.

The missing  hairpin in GE, unless it is a mere oversight of the engraver, proves that the mark was added in the last phase of proofreading of FE.

The missing  in GE suggests that it was added in the last phase of proofreading of FE. In GE3, the absence of the dynamic marking at the beginning of the Tutti was considered a mistake, and  was arbitrarily added in bar 327.

The ties of c1 in bars 332-333 and 334-335 were most probably added by Chopin in the last phase of proofreading of FE (→EE). In bar 335, it is the sustained c1 that was crossed out in FEH, which is most probably just a

b. 338-339

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

The version of GE, contrary to the orchestral part of FEorch (→GEorch) – in the last chord in bar 338, bassoon I, violas, oboe II and flute II do not have a b (in various octaves), but a c, while in the 1st chord in bar 339, violins II, clarinets and oboe II have a f1(2) – is almost certainly completely erroneous. The traces visible in FE prove that those mistakes were originally committed in that edition, yet they were corrected in the last phase of proofreading.
