Longer slur in GE3

Longer slur suggested by the editors

..

We consider the slur of FE (→EE) to be inaccurate (shortened), most probably due to the notation of the topmost semiquavers on the upper stave, which interfered with a longer slur. In the main text, we suggest a longer slur, modelled after the authentic slur in bars 296 and 312. The slur in GE, starting later, which could be a revision or a mere inaccuracy, may, however, correspond to the notation of [A], since in similar contexts, it is sometimes very difficult to interpret slurs in Chopin's autographs. Therefore, one can consider the slur of GE3, although formally non-authentic, to be an acceptable variant.

Slurs in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3

Slurs suggested by the editors

..

According to us, the division of the slur reproduced in the sources is inaccurate, which is facilitated by such configuration. A possible interruption of legato would require shortening f3, written as a quaver, whereas the accented beginning of the slur (b2) would interfere with the long accent on the next note, g2. Therefore, in the main text we suggest modifying the slurs, eliminating the above defects, which is confirmed by the slur in analogous bar 288. The slur of GE3 must be arbitrary, although it is possible to justify it as having been modelled after the authentic slur in the previous bar.

b. 307-310

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In each of these bars, FE features a  before the 1st semiquaver; however, in the further part of the passage, respective notes in other octaves are devoid of marks. These patent inaccuracies, most probably repeated after [A], were corrected in the remaining editions.

b. 316-317

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In FE, both the  raising a2 to ain bar 316 and the  raising c3 to cin bar 317 are missing. These patent inaccuracies, most probably repeated after [A], were corrected both in GE and EE. The latter was added also in FED.

Accent on a2 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

L.H. accent in GE3

..

According to us, placing the accent under the asemiquaver is inexplicable from the musical point of view and is most probably a mistake of the engraver of FE, who put the mark a semiquaver too early. In the main text, we move the accent over the crotchet in the L.H., which, judging from the next two similar bars, should be accented. Such an interpretation of this mark was adopted also in GE3.
