b. 13-15

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

Upon the first appearance of the three five-note descending motifs, it is the inconsistency between the authentic piano reduction, contained in Atut (→FEGE,EE), and the orchestral parts of FEorch (→GEorch) that draws our attention. The doublings in the upper octave are present only in the motif spanning bars 15 and 16, performed by Violins I, Violas and Cellos. In the 2nd half of bar 13, only Flute I plays, with the Flute II joining in unison for the following two notes, whereas the repetition of the motif in bars 14-15 is performed by Bassoon I.
For other discrepancies of this kind see bars 15-19 and 33.

Slurs in Atut, interpretation

Slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3

..

The slur in bar 13, which ends the line of the text in Atut, is written indistinctly – one can see only its beginning. Consequently, the mark was omitted in FE (→EE,GE1GE2), whereas the slur begins only just from bar 14. The revision introduced in GE3, a slur encompassing the entire first motif, like all subsequent ones, certainly corresponds to Chopin's intention, hence we include it in the main text (cf. prolonging the slurs in Atut in bars 14-15 and 17-18).

b. 13-16

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No L.H. slurs in Atut (→FE)

Slurs in bars 14-16 in GE1 (→GE2) & EE

Slurs in bars 13-16 in GE3

..

In Atut (→FE), there are no slurs in the L.H., which, taking into account the complete slurring of analogous bars 17-20, must be considered an inaccuracy of notation. Both in GE1 (→GE2) and EE, in the L.H. the slurs of the R.H. were repeated. In the main text, we also add slurs in the L.H.; however, we take into consideration the slur in bars 13-14, encompassing the entire motif and most probably intended by Chopin. Such a solution was introduced already in GE3

b. 14-18

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In bars 14-15 and 18-19, in accordance with Atut (→FEGE,EE), we give the melodic voice only. In the orchestral part made of parts FEorch (→GEorch), there is also a harmonic background of strings (c1-g1-e2). See bar 499.

b. 14

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

Following GE, in the main text we add cautionary naturals before b1 and b2. The latter was added also in EE2 (→EE3).
