Slurs

b. 223-225

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slurs in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slurs in GE3

..

The missing slurs may be a result of graphic difficulties in reproducing the slurs caused by the original layout, in which the topmost notes in the L.H. are written on the top stave. As there are no doubts that the accompanying quaver figures should be performed legato, in the main text, we add slurs on the basis of comparison with the analogous bars of the recapitulation (bars 574-576). Such an addition was introduced already in GE3.

Slur in GE3

Slurs suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we suggest adding slurs on the basis of comparison with the recapitulation, although the figuration is arranged slightly different there. The range of the slur added in bar 229 is marked by the adjacent slurs in bars 228 and 229-230. There is a similar situation in bars 230-231 – the added slur begins as the figuration is taken over by the L.H. and it ends before the next bass note in bar 232. The slur in bar 229 was added already in GE3.

Slurs in GE3

In the main text, we suggest adding slurs on the basis of a comparison with analogous bars 226-227. The slurs were added already in GE3.

Slur in FE (contextual interpretation→EE)

Slur in FE (possible reading→GE)

..

The inaccurate slur of FE was interpreted in GE as running from the 3rd crotchet in the bar, which is certainly erroneous, since in all 3 analogous places, the slur begins from the 2nd crotchet, with the entrance of the phrase led in octaves.
