Slurs

b. 201-202

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Slur in GE3

Slur suggested by the editors

..

The absence of the slur over the descending part of the phrase must be a mistake, even if committed by Chopin in [A]. In the main text, we add a slur modelled after the slur in bars 197-198, including the correction added in FED. The line underlining the significance of the rest is written in FED also in this place, which is an additional confirmation of the slurs we adopted. An identical addition was introduced in GE3.

b. 203

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

No slur in GE3

Slur suggested by the editors

..

The slur of FE (→EE,GE1GE2) is clearly erroneous – it corresponds neither to the course of music or the piano gesture. Taking into account the slurs in the subsequent similar passages, in the main text we suggest a slur modelled after the slurs present in the sources in bars 205 and 209.

b. 205

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

No slur in GE3

Slur suggested by the editors

..

The fact of leaving the first two semiquavers of the passage outside of the slur is almost certainly an inaccuracy of notation – cf. analogous bar 209. The missing slur in GE3 is probably a revision – this edition omitted all slurs in the R.H. in bars 203-210.

b. 207

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in sources

Slur suggested by the editors

..

The missing slur must be considered Chopin's or the engraver's mistake – in the remaining analogous bars, there are slurs, although inaccurate. In the main text, we suggest a slur modelled after the slurs of the sources in bars 205 and 209.

b. 208

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur from first octave in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur from 2nd octave suggested by the editors

..

In this context, two identical octaves at the beginning of the bar, the slur of the sources is almost certainly inaccurate. It could have been the revisers or even Chopin himself that did not notice it due to the enharmonic change of B1-B to A1-A.
