Slurs
b. 44

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major
..
In EE3, small slurs were added joining grace notes with their main notes. This is definitely an arbitrary revision made for the needs of that edition. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions |

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

In A, there is a slur extending from the crotchet g flat3 and ending over the deleted fragment of the text. We do not know whether Chopin left the slur intentionally or whether he simply forgot to delete it when making corrections. That slur is altogether absent from the editions. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Interpretations within context; Differences between sources |

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

Although the slur in A fails to reach f2 in bar 46, but its shape suggests it should end on that note. The notation is not quite clear, so it is difficult to blame the engraver of GE (→FE→EE) for interpreting the slur in a different way. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

The slur is drawn inaccurately in A and poses interpretation difficulties, particularly its right end. For reasons discussed in notes to bars 2-3 and 26-27 we consider it more probable that it was supposed to reach a flat1 . In the editions, that slur embraces only bar 46. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

b. 47-48
|
composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major
..
The moment of beginning the slur in A is unclear; from the graphic point of view both options seem likely, yet the comparison with analogous bars 3 and 27 makes us decide in favour of a longer slur, in line with the interpretation contained in the editions. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |
