Slurs

b. 59

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

A slur in A

No slur in GE (→FEEE)

..

The slur in A is faint, and this is probably the reason why it was overlooked in GE (→FEEE).

b. 60

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

A slur in A (→GEFE)

No slur in EE

..

In EE, the slur over the first group of small notes was omitted. This is certainly a mistake.

b. 60

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

A less probable reading of the slur in  A

A more probable reading of the slur in A (→GEFEEE)

..

When read literally, the slur in A begins from the 2nd note of the run. However, we think the notation is inaccurate here - the end of that slur is definitely moved to the right. The composer intended the slur to begin from the first sustained note, and this is how it was understood in GE (→FEEE).

b. 60

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

The slur of A, interpreted in context; GE (→FEEE)

The slur of A, read literally

..

When read literally, the slur in A begins on the 3rd semiquaver; what is more, it is not quite certain where it should end. The slur in GE (→FEEE) is, in our opinion, the correct manner of interpretation of the notation of A, which may be due to Chopin's intervention.

b. 61-62

composition: Op. 27 No 2, Nocturne in D♭ major

A slur in A (→GEFE)

A slur in EE

..

In EE, the slur reaches the crotchet d flat1 ending the phrase in bar 62. This is, however, not in line with the notation of A (→GEFE) and has to be considered an arbitrary change made by the reviewer of EE.
