In bars 37-42 and 44-45 in GE (→FE→EE) the semiquaver of the double dotted rhythm in the right hand was moved beyond the third note of the second triplet of the accompaniment. This misleading, inauthentic notation was also used for the double dotted rhythm in bar 49 and in the notation of dotted rhythms throughout the Nocturne - cf. bars 5-13. The dashes and the conjunction ed present in GE and linking sempre più stretto in bar 41 with appassionato in bar 45 are almost certainly in line with Chopin’s notation in [A]. Lack of those elements in FE (→EE), changing to a certain degree the meaning of the entire expression, is probably a mistake. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions |

We give the indication crescendo and the dashes defining its extent according to GE. In FE the dashes are omitted, a typical inaccuracy for this edition, and EE has no indication whatsoever. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Errors in EE |
