b. 41

composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor

..

The sources display the lower note of the octave E-e in an inaccurate or mistaken way. In GE the note-head is placed on the correct height but there is no ledger line, and FE (→EE) simply give F here.

No sign in GE (→FEEE)

suggested by the editors

..

We suggest the cresc. hairpin in the main text, by analogy with bar 41.

FE (→EE)

..

In FE (→EE), the first quaver of the first triplet is also provided with a staccato dot, doubtless due to oversight. In the edited text we repeat the notation of GE and do not double staccato dots in the octaves.

b. 43

composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor

In the sources, both triplets are marked with the numeral "3", what seems superfluous in this context.

FE (→EE) and GE2

..

GE1 has no sharps before the last two quavers. It may correspond to the notation of [A] for Chopin certainly regarded as obvious the sharpening of notes that actually repeat the bass note written with already at the beginning of bar. The error was corrected in FE (→EE), possibly by Chopin, sharps were also supplemented in GE2.
