We consider the edition performed by the Wessel & Co. company, which had been working with Chopin for several years and had published in England almost all his works, to be the main representative of the English editions. Due to this fact, in spite of EEC having appeared earlier, it is EEW1 that we consider to be the first English edition.
The edition generally reproduces the text of FE1. Deviations have a nature of mistakes, e.g., no dynamic hairpin in bars 138-144, or revisions, e.g.:
- adding pedalling in bars 20 and 106,
- shifting signs in bars 29 and 31,
- adding a1 to the 3rd crotchet in bar 189.
Chopin did not participate in its development.
