Title: Trois Valses || Valse | No. 3
Dedication: Mademoiselle la Comtesse Catherine Branicka

The first French edition, based on A. Chopin probably proofread it twice, which is indicated by comparison with GE1, in which some, yet not all, of the corrections introduced in FE1 were included. Among the changes included in GE1 one can mention:

  • tie of g1 in bars 76-77,
  • slur in the L.H., added in bar 95,
  • slur in the R.H., added in bar 99,
  • ties of e1 in bars 109-110 and 125-126.

The undoubtedly Chopin interventions appear among the corrections of the last phase, not included in GE:

  • modification of the motif in the R.H. in bar 49,
  • change of d2 to d2 in bar 57,
  • addition of sostenuto in bar 109,
  • removal of some of the internal notes in the chords in the L.H. in bars 160-164.

FE1 repeated a number of inaccuracies of A, e.g., in the notation of accidentals. Moreover, a few new mistakes were committed, e.g.:

  • overlooked indications of pedalling in bars 9 and 72,
  •  in bar 16 and  in bar 140 and 153-156 were overlooked.

Certain changes introduced in FE1 prove an editorial revision, e.g., adding a change of pedal in bars 13-14 and analog. According to us, the majority of added accidentals is also a result of the reviser's actions.
