Title: Douze Etudes || No. 20
Dedication: None

Among the changes introduced in EE2 one can mention additions of the overlooked accidentals, e.g., flats returning a2g2 and d3 in bar 8, cautionary  before g3 in bar 19 and before g2 in bar 26.

Moreover, the fingering in bars 3, 27 and 28 adopted from FE was added, as well as the versions of bars 25-26 (octaves in the bass), 26-27 (ties sustaining g2-e3), corrected by Chopin in FE, were introduced. Deletion of  in bar 28 was most probably caused by comparison with FE as well. The latter, not being a mere addition to the text, unlike the previous ones, raises the question why other corrections, which could have been introduced while performing comparison with FE and would have certainly benefited the Etude, were not introduced – replacing the single A note at the beginning of bar 19 with an octave and particularly change of g to a in bar 1. According to us, there is a possibility of a common oversight or the will of avoiding more complicated corrections of the note text on the staves.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a later impression (1843), in which the individual title page was replaced with the cover of the Wessel & Co's Complete Collection of the Compositions of Frederic Chopin series. EE2 was then reprinted with further versions of this collective cover (completed with next Chopin pieces published by Wessel) until ca. 1858, when certain modifications were performed in the note text (see the characteristics of EE3). EE2 also includes copies of this Etude published separately. All versions of EE2 with a collective cover, as well as those published separately, are devoid of the authentic dedication.
