EE3 - Revised impression of EE2

Publisher: Wessel & Co.
Date: ca 1858
Plate number: (W & Co. No. 1833)
Title: Douze Etudes || No. 20
Dedication: Mme. la Comtesse d'Agoult

EE3 reintroduced the overlooked dedication in EE2, placing it over the note text on the 1st page of the Etude in A major, No. 1. Among the changes in the note text, the most important ones seem to be the changes introduced on the basis of comparison with GE – octave (see also the characteristics of EE2) and  in bar 19 and arpeggio in bar 36. One can also mention additions of cautionary accidentals, e.g., a  before e3 in bar 3.

In spite of additions and corrections, certain patent inaccuracies remained unnoticed, e.g., lack of the  returning f2 in the penultimate sixth in bar 3 or the  returning d1 at the end of bar 23. The bottom note of the 4th quaver in bar 1 was also left without correction.

The copy presented in mUltimate Chopin comes from a later (ca. 1862) impression, endorsed by Wessel's successor, the Ashdown & Parry company. The changes in relation to the original impression of Wessel (whose copy the editors of mUltimate Chopin did not find) most probably concerned only the details of the cover – above all, the company's name was updated (cf. the cover of the first book of the Etudes).
