Slurs
b. 172
|
composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor
..
The slur of A is written over the notes and it embraces the entire motif, together with the minim. It is also poorly visible due to the ending ink and the upcoming word acceler. It explains the absence of the slur in FE, as its oversight by the engraver or even considering it to be deleted by the overwritten indication is highly likely. The slur was completed in the remaining editions on the basis of analogy with similar bars earlier and bar 173. In the main text we give the slur in this form – under the notes and embracing the semiquavers only, as Chopin, while writing A, probably erroneously wrote the original form of this sign. It is proved by the clear slur in the next bar, as well as the notation of bar 20, in which the composer deleted the longer slur over the stave, replacing it with a shorter one under the notes. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A |

composition: Op. 26 No 2, Polonaise in E♭ minor

In FE the oversight of the clearly written slur in A seems to be a mistake. However, taking into account the recitative and culminant character of this motif, one cannot exclude the deletion of the slur by Chopin in the proofreading of FE1. In GE and EE the slur was added probably after analogy with the previous bars. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Errors in FE , Authentic corrections of FE |

A separate slur for the L.H. was added in the proofreading of FE1, most probably by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |
