b. 127

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Long accent in A

No mark in FE (→EE1)

Short accent in GE & EE2

..

The missing accent in FE (→EE1) could be blamed on the copyist's oversight, since the mark written on the stave is poorly visible in A. Nevertheless, since in bar 135, in a similar context, the visible A accent is also absent in FE, it is more likely that both marks were added to A after the basis for FE, that is [FC], had been finished. GE reproducing the accent as short is a frequent inaccuracy concerning long accents. The short EE2 accent was repeated after GE1.

b. 129-134

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

No marks in A (→GE)

Staccato dots in FE (→EE)

..

In A (→GE) Chopin marked the staccato articulation for the R.H. bottom voice only in the first 2 bars of this theme (bars 127-128). These dots must be considered model indications, supposed to be followed also in subsequent bars with similar texture. On the other hand, we cannot rule out a mistake, since Chopin stopped writing dots after the line ended. Regardless of the reason for their absence, Chopin added them to [FC] or while proofreading FE, which we include in the main text.

b. 130

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

No R.H. lower voice in sources

Crotchet f suggested by the editors

..

The missing crotchet complementing the R.H. bottom voice in the sources is probably Chopin's oversight, which is indicated by a comparison with analogous bar 138 and 297. Such oversights of one of the notes in a multi-part texture happened to Chopin on a few occasions, e.g. in the Nocturne in B, Op. 62 No. 1, bar 33. In the discussed place, the possibility of making a mistake is increased by the corrections the traces of which are visible in the form of a deletion on the top stave.

b. 135

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

Long accent in A (→GE)

No mark in FE (→EE1)

Short accent in EE2

..

The A accent, like the one in bar 127, was probably added after [FC] had been finished, which explains its absence in FE (→EE1). In this case, GE reproduced it correctly as a long accent, yet EE2 still added a short mark.

Slur to b in A (→GE

Slur to b1 in FE (→EE)

..

The prolonged ending of the slur in FE (→EE) must be an inaccuracy by the copyist or by the engraver.
