b. 459-460

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

Slur to e1 in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur to bar 460 suggested by the editors

..

In analogous bars 467-468, the slur in a pianistically identical situation is led to the beginning of the bar. Therefore, it is likely that one of the versions is inaccurate. A longer slur is supported by the slur in the L.H., while a shorter slur could be justified by the presence of  in bar 460. However, the force of the latter is impaired by the double slur in bars 463-464, in which the quaver that ends the passage is also accented ( after ).
A similar divergence between the range of slurs can be observed between bars 463-464 and 471-472.

b. 460

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

in EE

in GC (→GE) & FE

Notation with cautionary naturals

..

The variant in EE is most probably an earlier version of this chord (cf. corresponding situation in b. 210). In the main text we present the version of GC (→GE) and FE, supplemented by cautionary naturals before h and h1.

b. 460

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

No cin EE & GC (→GE)

cin FE

..

The more complete chords of FE correspond with b. 210. For the main text we adopt EE and GC (→GE), where Chopin skilfully reduces the performance volume of the chords in their middle register.

In EE, f in the quaver chord was mistakenly written out in the RH part.

Staccato dot in FE (→EE)

..

The lack of a staccato dot over the e3-eoctave is probably an oversight by the engraver of GE

Slurs in FE (→EE)

Slurs in GE1 (→GE2)

Slurs in GE3

..

Division of the slur before the 2nd beat of bar 460 must be an inaccuracy of FE (→EE), since wherever analogous passages in the L.H. are encompassed with a slur (bars 452, 456 and 458), it always starts from the first, topmost note of the passage. In GE1 (→GE2), an attempt at proofreading the slurs was probably taken; however, the beginning of the second slur was moved inaccurately, on the 2nd semiquaver. Completely correct slurs, compliant with the natural shape of the figuration, were introduced in GE3
