b. 254

composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor

..

In all editions, this bar opens a new line, and there is a slur reaching the first L.H. note (B), which seems to be a continuation of the slur from the preceding bar. However, there is no L.H. part slur in the previous bar, which points to a mistake, most probably when prolonging the R.H. slur. Considering the division of the text into lines we adopted in our transcriptions, a reasonable reproduction of this notation is impossible.

b. 254

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

f-d1-a1 in A (→GE) & FE1

f-d1-b1 in FE2 (→EE)

..

The A (→GE) and FE1 version is probably Chopin's mistake – the chord is written there in bass clef, while with a greater number of ledger lines, Chopin would relatively often write one too many or one too less. This assumption is confirmed by the changes introduced at the stage of proofreading FE2 (→EE), almost certainly at Chopin's request.

b. 254-255

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

cresc. - - in A

cresc. - - - in GE

No indication in FE (→EE1)

cresc. in EE2

..

The cresc. - - indication was most probably added to A after [FC] had been finished. GE reproduced it inaccurately, suggesting that its range should be longer. EE repeated the indication – in a reduced form – after GE1. Similarly, in bars 258-259.
