b. 240

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

The deletions visible in A at the beginning of the bar reveal that Chopin initially wrote d1 as the bottom note of the 1st chord, accompanied by F (con 8) as the L.H. octave. Therefore, the  to the next d1 crotchet was most probably meant to cancel the alteration and not to perform the role of a cautionary accidental following d in the preceding bar.

b. 240-241

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

Slur to f2 in A

Slur to g2 in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

Chopin extended the A slur for it to reach the f2 crotchet. Therefore, the version of the editions resulted from a totally unjustified arbitrary decision by the engraver of GE.

Slur e2-f2 in A

No slur in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The missing e2-f2 slur in GE (→FE,EE,IE) is either an oversight or a revision – making one's work easier by omitting a slur on the stave, which requires greater precision.

Long accent in A

 in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

It is unclear whether the A mark is to be understood as a long accent or as a diminuendo – both versions seem to be musically acceptable. In the main text we provide an accent due to the shape of the mark, closer to accents. Moreover, according to us, the beginning of the tenor voice motif, emphasised by a slur, is another argument for an accent. In GE (→FE,EE,IE) the mark, extended between both crotchets, is definitely a diminuendo.

b. 241-242

composition: Op. 43, Tarantella

..

In A due to the charred corner of the page the part beginning with b. 241 to the end of b. 242 is illegible.
