The missing staccato dots at the beginning of bar 197 (in both hands) and 199 can be almost certainly attributed to the inaccuracy of the engraver of GE1 (→FE→EE). The signs were added in GE2 after A.

In A bar 199 is the last one on the page, which contributed to the fact that the range of the slur in the L.H. is vague – the slur started in this bar suggests continuation, yet there is no ending thereof on the next page. The inaccuracy was corrected in GE1 (→FE→EE), perhaps at Chopin's request; however, it is questionable that he would be thinking about a slur that would not embrace the last note of this scale passage (cf. the slurs in the R.H. in this place). Due to this fact, it is the slur led to the beginning of bar 201, in accordance with GE2, that we adopt to the main text.

Two whole-bar slurs in FE (→GE1→GE2) must be inaccurate. The slur encompassing the rest in bar 199 is probably a remaining part of the original rhythm (without the rest inserted into the sequence of the semiquavers), whereas the division of the slur on the bar line may be, e.g. a result of the change of line in [A]. In EE, only the second of the slurs was reproduced, whereas in GE3, the first one was divided over the rest. In the main text, we give slurs modelled after the previous two bars, including the correction written in FED.
