b. 199-200

composition: Op. 49, Fantaisie in F minor

d1 minim tied over in A & FE (→EE)

d1 tied over barline in GE1

No tying in GE2

..

Tying the d1 quaver to the next bar is a typical mistake of the engraver of GE1, who, instead of a tie running to the right of the minim, inserted its mirror reflection – a tie to the left. The attempt to correct this mistake in GE2 did not result in the right version – the wrong tie was removed, yet the right one was not added.

b. 199-200

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No slurs in A

Slurs in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

In the main text we keep the A notation, as in the entire theme the A slurs are much less numerous than in the exposition – e.g. the L.H. slurs in bars 195-197 and 201-202 are absent.

b. 199-202

composition: Op. 12, Variations in B♭ major

No pedalling in FE (→GE,EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

Taking into account the homogenous texture in bars 199-202, we consider it unlikely that Chopin would have wanted to apply a different pedalling concept to the subsequent half-bar figures. Therefore, in the main text we indicate the possibility of supplementing pedal markings, taking into account possible extra-musical reasons for the absence of some of them, such as oversights or lack of space.

b. 199

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt IV

Slur to g in A

Slur to f in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The shorter GE slur (→FE,EE,IE) could be an inaccuracy or a revision aimed at bringing this place into line with the authentic slurs in analogous bars 17-19. After all, the difference between the ways these places were written down in A suggests that Chopin considered them almost equivalent.
