The missing asterisk in A is undoubtedly a mistake – this kind of oversights would happen to Chopin on a number of occasions, and the end of a page always fosters inaccuracies. The total oversight of the second pedal in this bar in GE1 (→FE→EE) is also to be considered a mistake – there is no reason to use a different pedalling in the ending of this bar than in three previous analogous bars 234, 236 and 238. GE2 added both a and a . In this context, the placement of the sign adopted there is the only reasonable one, hence we give this version in the main text. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , No pedal release mark , Inaccuracies in A |

In A (→GE), there is an unjustified cautionary before d1. The sign was omitted in FE (→EE). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions |

The mark present in FE (→GE,EE) is probably a mistake (cf. analogous bars 84, 88 and 236 where there is a ). Such erroneous swaps of those markings were quite frequent in first pieces published by Chopin in France (cf. the notes to the Etudes: in A Minor, Op. 10 No. 2, bar 12; in E, No. 3, bar 54; in C Minor, No. 4, bars 1, 8, 16, 26, 54; in E Minor, No. 6, bars 21 and 32, in C Minor, No. 12, bar 37). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Inaccuracies in FE , fz – f |
