Slur in A

No slur in GE (→FEEE)

The slur, combining in A the 4th beat of bar 3 with the chord at the beginning of bar 4, concerned the original (deleted) version of the last crotchet in bar 3, in which the note was assigned to the L.H. and written on the bottom stave. As a result, one can ponder whether in the new notation of the chord ending bar 3 the sign was to be applied too. However, since Chopin did not delete the slur, we include it in the main text, adjusting only its shape to the present notation. Omission of the slur in the editions seems to be, however, understandable in the face of the described ambiguity.

In A (→GE) Chopin overlooked the  returning bin the last crotchet in the bar. The addition of the sign in FE (→EE) may be assigned both to Chopin and a revision of the editor.

In A three necessary accidentals are missing: the  raising E to E in bar 21, the  lowering g1 to g1 and the  raising A1 to A1 in bar 22. The first two out of these patent inaccuracies were corrected already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2), yet the third only in EE and GE2.

The figure filling the 3rd crotchet in the bar is composed of a semiquaver and 7 demisemiquavers, hence it creates an irregular group of an undefined structure. We preserve the vague notation of the sources, since it does not raise any doubts concerning the way of performing the figure and most probably it does not contain a mistake – it can be understood e.g. as a  or a .
