b. 228-238

composition: Op. 43, Tarantella

..

In A and FC3 the second quaver group in the LH part in bars 228, 229, 230 and 238 is not written out with notes. A repeat sign of the first beat was notated here.

b. 228-229

composition: Op. 39, Scherzo in C♯ minor

 in EE & GC (→GE)

 in FE

..

As there is no reason for the pedalling in this passage to differ from that in analogous bars 183-185, we give precedence to the version of EE and GC (→GE).

b. 228-229

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

No accidentals in GC & FE1 (→FE2EE1)

Naturals in GE, FE3 (→FE4) & EE2

..

The absence of the naturals raising g(1) to g(1) is almost certainly a mistake of Chopin who partially corrected his error in the proofreading of FE3 by adding a  on the 2nd crotchet in bar 228. In FE4 the second necessary  was added, yet both signs are only in GE and EE2.

b. 228-229

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In GE this bar ends the line, and the opening fragment of the slur which starts from the G1-G octave, falling in this bar, is mistakenly omitted.

issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Uncertain slur continuation

b. 228-229

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

End of slur in A, contextual interpretation

End of slur in GE (→FEEE)

..

The slur of A at the end of bar 228 clearly indicates a continuation to bar 229. Therefore, this is the version we adopt in the main text, although in bar 229 (on a new page) there is no ending of the slur.
