In A there is no before the lower note of the octave at the beginning of the bar (D). The accidental was added in all the remaining sources. GC overlooked a rising f1 to f1 in the chord on the 2nd quaver. The error was rectified in GE. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Editorial revisions issues: Accidentals in different octaves |

The two sources versions of slurring in these bars do not exhaust all the potentially authentic combinations of slurs – see bars 7-9. Therefore, as an alternative we suggest two more possibilities – a supplementation to the FE version, and a version analogous to the probably authentic EE slur added in bars 7-9. category imprint: Differences between sources |

The indication in A is written only before the semiquaver, hence after the 1st chord in the bar. It is compliant with indications of Morch and it is most probably compatible with Chopin's intention. Moving the sign to the beginning of the bar is almost certainly an arbitrary decision of the engraver of GE, by the way justified, since some of Chopin indications placed in a similar way are to be interpreted as valid exactly from the beginning of the bar. Chopin most probably removed while proofreading FE (→EE). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

The version of GE stems from a misunderstanding of the notation of A – the tie of a1 in bars 195-196 was reproduced as a slur of the top voice in bar 195. The fact that the slur is led to the minim in bar 196 in FE (→EE) is owed to the proofreading, possibly a Chopin one, whose aim was most probably to restore the version of A, yet it was implemented inaccurately. A possibility that Chopin resigned from sustaining a1, and that he wanted to combine both parts of this transitional phrase by extending the slur (cf. the adjacent note), seems to be much less likely. Therefore, we adopt the version of A to the main text. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Errors in GE , Authentic corrections of FE |
