composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Pedalling in GC

No pedalling in FE (→EE1)

Pedalling in GE1

Pedalling in GE2

Pedalling in EE2

..

The pedalling in GC was added by Chopin. GE1 recreated it incompletely and inaccurately, which was completed – inaccurately – in GE2. The pedalling of GE1 was repeated and completed also in EE2. Cf. bars 179-180189-191 and 193-198.

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

B-f in GC (→GE) & FE2 (→EE,FE3FE4)

B in FE1

The comparison with GC and later correction in FE2 prove that the version of FE1 is erroneous. The omission of was probably the reason of an inaccurate shortening of the slur of the grace note.

composition: Op. 64 No 3, Waltz in A♭ major

up to bar 168 in A

up to bar 170 in FE (→GE,EE)

..

A longer  hairpin may be a result of Chopin's proofreading. However, taking into account a possibility of a mistake of the engraver, in the main text we give the undoubtedly authentic, simpler notation of A.

b. 169-170

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

The flats restoring e at the beginning of the 2nd half of the bar are missing in both bars in A (→GE). The mistake was corrected in FE (→EE), probably at Chopin's demand. Similarly in analogous bars 319-320.

Slurs in FE

Slurs in EE

..

The astonishingly precise slurs of GE were most probably proofread by Chopin. It is indicated by minor traces of corrections and by the version of FE, which probably reflects the state prior to the proofreading. See also the adjacent note on staccato dots.
