Title: | Vingt-quatre Préludes |
Dedication: | Son ami J. C. Kessler |
GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
In this Prelude the more pronounced defects include the following:
- e1 instead of d1 at the beginning of b. 17;
- the slur in b. 21 reproduced as a tie combining the b1 minims in b. 21-22, and the slur in b. 25 as a tie combining the a1 minims in b. 25-26;
- grace note: g1 instead of f1 in b. 26,
- the slur in b. 40-41 starting too late.
The revisions of GE1 include added accidentals, which, except b. 30, are obvious, e.g. in b. 24-27 or 27-32. However, some mistakes, e.g. no restoring g1 in b. 3, were not noticed.
