Dedication: | Son ami Camille Pleyel |
First French edition based on A, in which the whole cycle of Preludes was divided in two books, 12 pieces each. Chopin did not participate in its preparation – proofreading of FE1, which included supplemented accidentals and pedaling, was conducted by Julian Fontana. For a general description of FE1 in the entire Op. 28 – see Prelude in C no. 1.
In this Prelude the very numerous, patent oversights of accidentals were not remedied. In turn, a few, not entirely obvious changes were introduced:
- a restoring a1 in b. 4 was added,
- the dashes marking the range of the cresc. were extended to the middle of b. 12,
- a restoring g2 in b. 21 was added,
- a restoring d3 in b. 23 was added,
- in b. 25-26 the 6 long accents were replaced with 8 short ones.
Among the defects one can mention the erroneous notes in b. 1-2, the mistaken in b. 8, the necessary accidentals omitted while writing out in full the abridged notation of A in b. 22, and inaccuracies in reproducing dynamic markings – not always precise – and R.H. slurs (yet the overlooked L.H. slur in b. 10 was added).
