Title: | Vingt-quatre Préludes |
Dedication: | Son ami J. C. Kessler |
GE1 is based on FC, Chopin took no part in its preparation. In the entire Op. 28 GE1 contains many adjustments and errors – see Prelude in C no. 1. There are copies of GE1 which have differing covers, and the edition was also published in a version of 4 fascicules containing 6 preludes each.
In this Prelude the vast majority of the numerous inaccuracies in the chromatic notation were remedied, also in less obvious situations, e.g. in b. 13. Cautionary accidentals were also added, e.g. a before f2 and a before b2 in the 1st group of demisemiquavers in b. 10.
Among the defects of GE1 one can mention:
- overlooked L.H. accents in b. 1-2,
- overlooked dashes marking the range of the cresc. in b. 9-10,
- the R.H. slurs having been combined in b. 22,
- overlooked dim. - - - in b. 24,
- 2 superfluous accents having been added in b. 26,
- the arpeggio wavy line having been shortened at the end of the Prelude.
