FC - Fontana's copy

Date: (II-III) 1839
Title: Vingt-quatre Préludes
Dedication: Monsieur Camille Pleyel

Copy of A made by Julian Fontana (lost, known from a photocopy) as the basis for the first German edition. As a whole, the copyist duplicated the text of A carefully, nonetheless making a number of mistakes, e.g. he overlooked the dynamic hairpins in b. b. 1228 and 33, inaccurately reproduced the slurs in b. 22 and 23-24 or prolonged the dashes following the dim. in b. 24-26. For a list of more important flaws of FC in the whole Op. 28 see Prelude in C no. 1. Chopin did not correct FC.

Moreover, Fontana introduced certain minor additions – he added a L.H. slur in b. 10. In the last bar he changed the notation of the grace note by replacing the small crotchet with a slashed quaver.
