Tempo marking in AI

A (→GEFEEE)

..

While preparing the Mazurka for print Chopin revised and precised the initial performance indications in A (→GEFEEE): he described the tempo differently than in AI, and added the metronome mark and con anima.

The dedication in AI

The title and dedication in A (→GE1)

FE and GE2

..

AI is not titled, and the dedication written there differs from the later one that Chopin wrote for the entire opus in A (→GEFEEE). The replacement of 4 Mazurkas with Quatre Mazurkas in FE and GE2 does not change the content of the authentic title from A (→GE1). However, the addition to the title in EE is definitely inauthentic; the English editor used to add the expression Souvenir de la Pologne to each consecutive opus of Chopin's mazurkas.

Slur in AI

More probable reading of slurs in A

Less probable reading of slurs in A (→GEFEEE)

..

The first slur of the Mazurka begins on a bar-line in A, which allows a twofold interpretation. The slur at the end of bar 12 (1a volta) also may be read as encompassing only two quavers or longer.

Long accents in A (→GEFEEE)

No marks in AI

..

AI has no accents for g1 in bars 1, 3 & 7 (a similar situation appears in bar 25, 27 & 31). The discussed bars are among few places in which Chopin's long accents are reproduced quite precisely in GE (→FEEE).

No pedal in AI

..

Chopin wrote into A a mark  at the end of the bar, clearly after the 3rd L.H. crotchet. In GE1 (→FEEE) the mark was placed under the 3rd crotchet. The notation in GE2 is unclear: the asterisk is to be found below the last chord, but shifted perceptibly to the right which may be regarded an attempt to better fit the script of A.

AI has no pedal markings becuse of the different L.H. part version.
